This is a good fit if you suspect lipedema and would like an experienced clinician to perform a thorough evaluation and provide documentation that may be needed for a surgical or insurance review.

Depending on your medical history and physical evaluation, most lipedema diagnoses may be made safely through virtual consultation. However, a formal diagnosis sometimes may require an in-person exam and/or additional evaluation. If an in-person assessment is recommended, I’ll help you understand what kind of clinician to look for and how to advocate for yourself in the process.

Yes, after your consultation you will receive medical documentation reflecting the clinical findings and diagnostic impression after your virtual visit. Every insurer and surgical team has different requirements, so documentation is provided to support the medical record, NOT as a promise of approval.

Insurance approval depends on your plan’s criteria and review process. After your consultation, you will be given a thorough, medically grounded evaluation that provides clear documentation that you can submit as part of your case when appropriate.

  1. Complete any requested forms from Pioneering Wellness
  2. A short symptom timeline (when symptoms started, what changed over time, etc)
  3. Prior related diagnoses (lymphedema, venous insufficiency, EDS/hypermobility, thyroid, etc)
  4. Any prior imaging or labs related to prior lipedema workup
  5. A list of treatments you have tried in the past (compression stockings, physical therapy, exercise, etc)
  6. Photos, if you are comfortable, are optional but may be helpful to support your diagnosis

You will not leave stuck. We will talk through other possibilities and the most reasonable next steps. Lipedema is often confused with other conditions, and sorting that out is part of the value of this visit.

This one-time visit is focused on diagnosis and documentation. If you are interested in ongoing care – functional medicine support, weight management, wellness coaching – you can enroll in a monthly Pioneering Wellness subscription or Coaching program after your evaluation.

This service is direct pay and is not billed to insurance. If you’d like, we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance as an out of network claim (coverage varies by plan). Please check with your insurance to see if this visit will qualify as an eligible HSA/FSA medical expense.
